Toyota Prius Tops List of Greenest Cars

Toyota is a carmaker known for many things, and fuel efficiency is undoubtedly one of them. For many years now, the company has been making eco-friendly vehicles, and one that was recently signaled out is the Toyota Prius. The ACEEE and its GreenerCars Assessment

Several watchdog groups monitor vehicles and their effect on the environment. One of these is the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). Through its GreenerCars assessment, the agency looks at every new light-duty vehicle that comes out annually in the U.S. To gauge their impact on the planet, several factors are examined, including:

• Greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions while the car is in use
• Pollution created by its eventual disposal
• Emissions generated by powering the grid (for hybrids and PHEVs)
• Emissions from mining, extracting, and processing battery minerals
• Emissions from the manufacture of parts and the vehicle’s final assembly

Unlike some studies focusing solely on mileage and/or efficiency, the ACEEE data uniquely accounts for the vehicle’s entire lifecycle.

The Toyota Prius is the Greenest Car for 2024

GreenerCars creates two positive lists every year. The absolute best vehicles in terms of the criteria above are on the Greenest list, and this year, the Toyota Prius was at the top. There were also several other models, including the Toyota bZ4X, Toyota RAV4 Prime, and Toyota Camry LE. On the Greener list, the Toyota Sienna and Toyota Highlander made the cut.
