Are you getting ready to relocate to a new state? We know there are already many items on your to-do list, but don’t forget to make caring for your vehicle one of them. At Casey Toyota, we’re addressing how to care for your car if you’re moving to another state.

Review Your Lease or Loan Terms

Whether you have an existing Toyota lease or loan, it likely came with terms and restrictions. Before you move, make sure that you review your original contract. Some liens and leases explicitly restrict you from permanently relocating your vehicle to a new state.

Contact Your Lending Institution

Even if your contract doesn’t restrict you from relocating, reaching out to your lender is still essential. They should always have up-to-date contact information so you can receive pertinent info, billing statements, recall information, and other can’t-miss items. They’ll also need to know where to send your title once your loan is paid off.

Update Your Insurance

Your auto insurance is another thing that may be affected if you move states. For starters, some insurance companies don’t provide coverage in every state. Plus, you may now have new coverage requirements that you need to meet, and your policy may need to change.

Register Your Vehicle

There’s one more item on your to-do list – registering your vehicle. Generally, states allow 30 to 90 days to register your vehicle once you move. In some states, you’ll also need to have your vehicle inspected to ensure it complies with safety and emission regulations.
